Department of Interior (DOI)
The U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) serves as keepers of our nation’s legacy by protecting America’s natural resources and heritage, honors our cultures and tribal communities, and supplies the energy to power our future.
The department and its 70,000 employees are developing and implementing the cutting-edge science and expert management techniques to deliver on their mission. It is a Cabinet-level agency that employs expert scientists and resource-management professionals in eight technical bureaus. CTAC's DOI work has been with the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), the oldest bureau in the Department. The BIA provides services (directly or through contracts, grants, or compacts) to approximately 1.9 million American Indians and Alaska Natives. In addition, the Bureau is responsible for the administration and management of 55 million surface acres and 57 million acres of subsurface minerals estates held in trust by the United States for American Indian, Indian tribes, and Alaska Natives.
